Fair Chance Announces its Incoming Partners Through its Strategic Partnership with Office of Justice Grants Administration (JGA), Executive Office of the Mayor
Fair Chance announces its new capacity building grant and five new partners who will be receiving a one year capacity building partnership starting Oct 1, 2009. The organizations are as follows: Breakthrough DC; Helping Inner City Kids (HICKS); Life Starts; Multicultural Career Intern Program (MCIP); and Urban Ed. These partnerships are made possible through a new funding initiative offered to community nonprofits from the Office of Justice Grants Administration (JGA), Executive Office of the Mayor. The goal of this collaboration with JGA is to strengthen the internal operations, sustainability and accountability of organizations that serve disconnected adolescents and status offenders, and to improve positive youth development outcomes for this population and their families.
Fair Chance is excited for this new initiative with JGA and looks forward to working with these five nonprofit organizations to assure the highest quality programs and continued services to young people. Information regarding the work and mission of our new partners is below:
Breakthrough increases educational opportunity for high-potential, low-income middle school students and inspires outstanding college and high school students to pursue careers in education. Breakthrough accomplishes its mission by providing students with tutoring, mentoring, high school placement, and college counseling.
Helping Inner City Kids (HICKS) assists in the transformation of youth whose lives have been or are currently being affected by drugs, crime, or violence. By providing programming focused on social, academic and economic development, HICKS offers young people opportunities for mentoring, life skills development, expressions through arts, and workforce development.
Life Starts (serving youth from Wards 7 & 8) provides mentoring, life skills, coaching, support, and advocacy for youth and their families. Life Starts’ actions are built upon the conviction that transformation begins with the heart, as they encourage individuals to create and cultivate a positive change in their lives and inspire others to do the same.
